GENERAL PHINIZY HULL REESE
April 22, 2012 – April 24, 2026
“Phinn”
I was blessed enough to share my life with Phinn for a total of 2,923 days. For eight beautiful years, he filled our lives with love, loyalty, and joy. Phinn was never just a dog; he was my family. A protector, a companion, and constant source of love, he brought a presence that filled every space he entered. Whether he was watching over the people he cared about or simply enjoying time by their side, he had a way of making every moment feel meaningful. He took his last breath in that ole Ram truck with the music softly playing and the windows rolled down.
He had his own little joys that made him unforgettable-like his fondness for bread. Notorious for being the “bread bandit.” If a sandwich or loaf of bread were left on the kitchen counter, Phinn would grab and go! He required more lounging than most and often opted for the armchair referee position. Of course, in his youthful years, he would magically turn into Houndini and disappear. He was respectfully known as the travelling man amongst the neighborhoods. Always returning after he made his favorite visits to his friends. He enjoyed lake life and riding in the boat. He was fabulous at diving for rocks. Beyond those lighthearted moments, Phinn formed deep and lasting bonds. His connection with his furry friend Palmer was truly special, and he carried a quiet loyal love for his Nana that spoke volumes without words.
His devotion to his family was steadfast. Always alert, always protective. Yet beneath that strength was a gentle, affectionate soul, one that offered comfort freely and loved without hesitation. I remember the day that he found his voice.
He learned to communicate with a bark and a curious nod. I would talk to him for hours on end and he would look at me as if he understood every word. Indeed!
He was very particular about his music, too. He enjoyed country and often got a pep in his step when blues music was playing. That ole Ram truck just will not feel the same without my Phinn riding along with me listening to Keith Whitley- Between and Old Memory and Me.
Phinn had a rare gift; he made people feel safe. Through a soft nudge, a knowing look, or simply his presence close by, he showed what unconditional love truly means. His loss leaves an unfillable space because he was one of a kind. But the love he gave-his loyalty, his warmth, his spirit-endures. It lives in every memory, every story, and every quiet moment.
Although my heart is breaking, I will forever cherish Phinn and know he will be there to greet me again one day.
I would like to extend my thankfulness to Jim and Karen Hull for blessing me and my family with Phinn. That kind of love never fades.
Our deepest appreciation to the staff and Dr. Edward Gross at Caremore Animal Hospital.
